What is the primary expectation of Poland in its role as a partner country of Hannover Messe?

The partner country status offers us a wide range of possibilities for presenting our industry to the entire world and also means another step towards a deeper business cooperation between Poland and Germany. Polish products are characterized by a very high a quality, and our companies operate successfully on foreign markets and are appreciated even by the most demanding customers. Polish companies compete on the world markets with regard to the production of electric vehicles, smart grids or perovskites.

Addressing the world’s manufacturing industries as potential investors in Poland – what are the main arguments you will communicate at Hannover Messe?

The theme of our presence during the Hanover fair 2017 as a partner country is SMART MEANS POLAND. We show a new vision of Poland’s development, its strength and innovativeness in such fields as robotics, industrial informatics or digitization. Our achievements in that field can be seen at the Polish national stand: 1,200 m2 dedicated to present the offer of 11 companies, 8 regions and 5 Special Economic Zones, which means around 200 Polish firms in total, including startups.

What can investors expect from the major infrastructure projects of Poland, especially in the logistics sector?

Poland is a very attractive place for investments due to its geographical location, which ensures the access to the region’s market, its membership in the European Union, its qualified staff and the market’s size. An element of particular importance for locating investments is transport, especially intermodal transport. Fifteen logistic centres and container terminals have been built and expanded, and the intermodal transport systems has been purchased or renovated.

The cities of Poland became hubs for the technological ecosystem. What are the main incentives to foster the continuous growth in the technology sector?

One of our priorities is the growth of Polish companies’ innovativeness. We have planned many measures in the governmental Responsible Development Strategy such as a focus on eliminating or mitigating barriers to the development of innovative activity. Also, Poland has the largest programme for young innovative companies in Eastern and Central Europe, addressing Polish and foreign operators and predicted to host 1.500 firms within the next 7 years.

How will Poland be able to cope with a typical challenge of all fast growing economies, the limited HR resources in specific sectors?

In the Strategy, we propose to gradually abandon the current support for all sectors and instead adopt individualised packages for distinct strategic sectors in order to build the human and social capital for the future. Along with the smart reindustrialization that will provide the impetus for the development of new industrial sectors based on digital technologies. That is why it is important to adapt the higher education to the needs of the modern economy and improve the education’s innovativeness.

Investment in Poland

Poland is the largest country in Central and Eastern Europe and the sixth largest in Europe. The value of direct foreign investment has amounted to more than EUR 160 billion. According to the EY 2016 European Attractiveness Survey, Poland was declared the fifth most attractive destination for FDI in Europe and first in CEE. Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom are the most important investors in the Polish market. The EUR 0.5 billion investment of Mercedes-Benz in Poland is an excellent example of Poland’s investment allure and is illustrative of Polish-German cooperation.
